Holistic Healing
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we
didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't
learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at
least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.
The Buddha

Throughout
time, every culture and civilisation has had their own tradition and
methods of healing.
Our Druidic forefathers used a combination of Earth
Magic, Ritual and Chanted Rhyme to bring about healing.
Traditional Paganism used very similar methods. the
only difference being that Druidism relied heavily on the male aspects
of healing where as Paganism and Wicca relied on the ‘Sacred Feminine’
aspect of healing.
If we look at the healing traditions of the North
American Indians, we will see that their traditions are not so far
removed from those of the Druids.
They both have their ‘ holy men’ both use some form
of vision quest or shamanic travel to gain knowledge of other worlds and
other dimensions, and where healing is concerned very similar methods
were employed.
Today we seem to have lost many of these traditions
that we shared, and healing now is done in hospitals and specific places
that share nothing with our origins, and have little or no 'spiritual'
element to them.

Sometimes the pendulum swings too far….
Modern medicine has cleared up many diseases that
were otherwise killers in the past, but it has also created new and
perhaps more deadly ones…to say nothing of the result of drug misuse. We look at things now and at the body in a
purely mechanical way. We reduce it to the sum of its parts and use
drugs to treat each separate part, or surgery to remove that part if it is felt
to be un-repairable.
We are not just our bodies, a collection of spare
parts! Even if we disregard the roll that the Chakras and the Aura play in our well-being,
we cannot disregard the spiritual/emotional part of our selves.
In other words, things that we can relate to, and
feel good about can often trigger self-healing. And what matter
how healing is actually triggered? It is healing nevertheless!
Yes I believe that we should take what we can from
modern medicine and modern practices… but we should also take full
advantage of all the knowledge that is available to us from our ancient
backgrounds in healing. All the herbs that can be used to ease
situations and to make us comfortable (and from which many of our modern
medicines initially derived, and which soon may be illegal to use in a
healing capacity!)
A hands-on healing such as spiritual healing or
Reiki, which is touching us at a much deeper level… in fact working at
soul level to help heal us.
It is when we bring all these disciplines together
with modern practices that we really stand the best chance of being
'well' once more, perhaps one day we will realize this?
We are more than the sum of our parts, we are more than
arms legs head and body! We are also Spirit/Soul and Aura and
perhaps something even greater who knows….
